Weekly Spotlight #008: Porter Robinson & Madeon – Shelter

Two of my favourite Electro-Artists made a track together. Porter Robinson and Madeon made a song and to be honest it is not what i expected of this compination. Don’t understand me wrong, the track is still pretty awesome. It is called Shelter and what takes it to another level is the video. Produced by A-1 Pictures, mostly known for its work on animes like Fairy Tail, Magi and Sword Art Online, it tells a tale about a girl trapped in a Virtual Reality and i don’t want spoil anything more. Just look at it for yourself.

Weekly Spotlight #007: STIL VOR TALENT

Hey folks!

This week i write about an label i really like – STIL VOR TALENT.

Since 2005 this berlin based label dropped some serious tracks to the music world and we are loving it. Founded by the great Oliver Koletzki, their releases span from deep-house to tech-housem, techno and some electronica and they also got a fashionlabel called „Stil vor Talent Fashion“.

Here are some recent tracks from this year:

Weekly Spotlight #006: Papillon Rising

It doesn’t happen often that you find a new artist and you love all their songs so far but there isn’t that much out yet. Same thing happened to me with Pappilon Rising. Although there is already an EP out called First Contact (which is really good BTW) i’m still craving for more. If you like some good old funky electronic music you should definitely check them out.

You want to know about two dudes from the future? Just take a look at the video below which explains everything about their misson.

And here is their first official video called Things Are Looking Up

Weekly Spotlight #004: Hot Since 82

Weekly Spotlight #003: Carpenter Brut

Synthwave is still a relatively small genre compared to others. Mostly inspired by the sound of 80s movies and games like Blade Runner, Robocop or Street Fighter it has gathered a little but trusty fanbase. Although there are great artists like Mitch Murder, Miami Nights 1984 or Perturbator, if you have to give the crown to someone it would definitely go to Carpenter Brut.

And here are two reasons why:

Weekly Spotlight #002: 90’s Rap

This week’s spotlight is all about the roots of my musical heart – hip-hop.
My first contact was 90’s german rap and soon after that i started hearing US rap especially from the new yorker scene.

Let’s go and start with the master of punchlines – Big L.

Monotone wisdom with alltime classic beats – Gang Starr.

Sickest flowing maschine i ever heard – Big Punisher.

Army of the pharaohs co-founders – Jedi Mind Tricks

Parker da old teacha – KRS-One

Jazz rap grandmasters – A Tribe Called Quest

Da bastard from the wu boys – Ol’Dirty Bastard

Ill kid with some serious lyrics – Nas

Weekly Spotlight #001: TIMEDANCE

In keeping with Signal One’s search for contemporary EDM music that seeks to do away with petty categorizations, here is our first weekly music-tip for you guys:

A still rather new form of UK techno is being pushed by a small Bristol-based scene revolving around the label TIMEDANCE. Founded by producer Batu, it gathers various producers who come out of the techno- or dubstep-field, yet approach these genres with an experimental mindframe and explore the no-man’s-land between Techno, Hip-Hop, EBM, Dubstep and what-not.. creating a unique brand of underground music that is deep, broken and often quite twisted!

If you’re interested in fresh and inspirational perspectives on techno – and want to get a bit freaky – check out the TIMEDANCE EP’s of Lurka, Ploy, Batu etc., but also related labels like Livity Sounds or Wisdom Teeth and producers like Facta, Hodge, Bruce, Asusu!
